Welcome
Abbey Runners
You've arrived at the online home of Abbey Runners, the north Leeds club for runners of all abilities and all ages. Abbey Runners has something for every runner: our members take part in road running, cross-country, fell, trail and triathlon. We meet twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 7:30pm) to run and train in ability-based groups for about an hour. For those new to running we have Beginners groups that meet on Tuesdays (6:45pm). We also have a thriving Juniors Section which meets on a Monday at 6:00pm. We also stage several races each year including the Abbey Dash and the Eccup 10, as well as the Golden Acre Relay, the Anniversary Fell Race and the Rombalds Romp. So whether you want to get fit or fitter, train hard or train harder, or if you just want a social, friendly run with like-minded people, why not come and try Abbey Runners. For more information, use the Contacts page to get in touch with our Membership Secretary.

As part of the Olympics legacy England Athletics are promoting the RunEngland initiative which aims to get the whole nation running.
It offers free membership to all new runners and Abbey Runners have set up a Run England group starting at 6:45pm on Tuesday evenings from the Adel clubhouse.
We walk, talk-coach, jog and run for up to 30 minutes and are trying to provide an almost one to one support for our beginners.

Many running clubs feature an annual ‘Grand Prix’ competition designed to reward the ‘best’ all – round runners (men & ladies, ‘open’ & ‘age-graded’). Another benefit of such an arrangement is that it tends to ‘focus’ the club’s presence at a smaller number of ‘key’ races (rather than having a few runners at lots of races), which is good both for the perception of the club within the running community, and for fostering ‘post-race socialising’. The Abbey Runners Grand Prix will be based on the points scored from 9 races (7 local races + any 1 ‘long’ race + the ‘club trip’ race). In order to have a chance of winning, you will need to be prepared to race on [...]

Abbey Runners Anniversary Fell Race 2013 The Whiskey Galore Version Abbey Anniversary Fell Race Thursday 6th June 2013 7.30pm. AS, 5 miles 1800 ft climbing. This fell race is ideal for novices who want to try a fell race that is challenging yet not too far or over difficult terrain. The going is generally on tracks but mostly over grass with a few boggy bits if the weather is wet. The climbing presents the challenge but the descents are fast and fun for those so inclined. This year an additional challenge is presented to those who like whiskey and can run fast. Two runners (one male one female) will start ahead of the pack each carrying a grouse (a stuffed [...]
