Are you finding it difficult to motivate yourself or are you bored with the same old routes?
Would you like to run more often but feel unsafe out on your own and would you like to run with a group.
Would you like the opportunity to compete in club races?
If you answered “YES” to any of the above, then, joining your local running club could be just the solution!
Most clubs are NOT just for elite athletes, obsessed with training and high-profile races!
Abbey Runners are a cross-section of like-minded individuals of varying ages and abilities, who enjoy the many benefits of training, racing and socialising with other runners on a regular basis.
We are a friendly, growing running club based at Adel War Memorial Association on Church Lane, just off Otley Road in North Leeds. We welcome all new runners...

Hetta Morath - World Record Holder?
On July 14th, Hetta turned 70 years old. She no longer runs long distances, but decided to celebrate the occasion by rowing a marathon in aid of the brain tumour charity Andrea’s Gift.
She would be very grateful for any sponsorship, and donations can still be made at http://www.justgiving.com/Hetta-Morath
This is just to say a big thank you, for your support for my marathon challenge. I managed to complete it in 3hrs 43mins, and am delighted to report that, thanks to your generosity, over £2000 has been raised for Andrea’s gift. This will make a significant contribution to the new research department which they have just set up in Leeds. We are so grateful and touched by your support. Thank you very much indeed.
Best wishes Hetta |

| Abbey-Valley Team Handicap (Tues 17th August): We have been invited by our good friends at Valley Striders to join them for the 3rd annual Abbey-Valley team handicap race, followed by a BBQ at Leo’s. The rules will be the same as last year: all runners (from both clubs) will be divided into 5 ‘pools’ (A – E) based on 10K race times. Each team of 5 will consist of 1 runner from each pool (names drawn from a hat), and will therefore comprise a mixture of Abbeys and Striders. The BBQ will cost £6.50 per head (meat and vegetarian options available); entry will be by ticket only (payable in advance). If you want to run, please let Mark have your most recent 10K time (and when and where you did it). If you want to come to the BBQ, let Mark know and you can then buy your ticket from him at the club.
