Training this week (w/c 12th May)

For newcomers, be aware that Thursday training alternates between the club and Carnegie Track in Headingley. Details are available on the Abbey web site:

Tuesday:   Club run back to normal format at AWMA to start running at 7:30pm (followed by crisp and award night!)

Thursday:  6 x 4 minute intervals at Carnegie track meeting at 7:20 for a 7:30 start (Price £4 on the night).

Please note that Thursday sessions are suitable for runners of all abilities and even if you are in one of the fastest or slower club run groups, you will be very welcome and likely to benefit from these sessions and Mark’s expert coaching.

If you notice some of our members making good progress achieving personal bests and club records in recent months, this may in part be linked to them attending Thursday training regularly in support of their overall training regimes!

Reminder – Meeting for aspiring coaches on Tuesday

Coaching Meeting (Tues 13th May): There will be a short meeting after running next Tuesday for everyone who is interested in taking a coaching course and getting involved with coaching at Abbey Runners (either with our Junior section, or with the Seniors). Existing coaches and run leaders are also welcome. This is an opportunity to find out more about the courses available and how the club can support potential coaches: no firm commitment is required at this stage! Please meet in the bar at AWMA at 8.45pm.

“Hash Run”, crisps and awards last Tuesday

Special thanks to Duncan Clark for organising an excellent Hash Run evening last Tuesday. I think everyone had a good time; the flour signage survived the rain and no-one fell in the beck!

Congratulations to John Fortescue who was announced as Abbey runner of the month having completed his 18th consecutive Three Peaks fell race – very impressive from the young lad! (Don’t forget to collect your bottle of beer before someone accidentally drinks it!)

Congratulations also to Dom Nurse and Sharon Williams who were presented with their Abbey Cross Country league winner trophies with their names engraved!
