Tuesday 13th June: Club 5k Handicap &BBQ

CLUB HANDICAP RESULTS

What is happening? Our annual 5k club handicap race, which replaces the usual Tuesday training session. The run takes place on a 2 lap course around the streets of Adel, starting and finishing at the car park beside The High Farm pub. Your start time depends on your recent 5k run times (parkrun or John Carr races, for example) and, if the handicapper does a good job, everyone finishes at around the same time and everyone has an equal chance of winning! If you win, you get to keep the coveted club handicap shield on your mantelpiece for a year, and your name will be engraved alongside the previous winners. Afterwards, we retire to The High Farm for a BBQ and drinks.

What do I need to do? Let Mark know if you want to run, and give  a recent 5k (preferably) or 10k race time either by commenting on the relevant Facebook post on the Abbey page, or by emailing  m.s.hetherington@leeds.ac.uk If you have run at Woodhouse Moor parkrun since Jan 1st this year, just post or email ‘yes – parkrun’  We also need 10 course marshals, so if you don’t want to run, please consider volunteering (post or email as above). Liz will need to know numbers for the BBQ, so please let her know if you want food (and if you want the veggie option) via email at willisliz@live.co.uk by Tuesday 6th June at the latest: if your name’s not on the list, you ain’t getting fed….

Club Trip 2017

Chase the Train  Saturday 17th June 14:00

This year we are taking you to Grosmont in North Yorkshire to Chase the Train. Abbey Runners will provide a coach to transport you to this scenic race and after a visit to a local pub for dinner, bring you home again. Your family and friends can also follow the race through the spectacular scenery of the North Yorkshire Moors by buying tickets to ride the train.

How do I enter?

Tickets for both the race and the train can be bought online here. Abbey runners will be refunded £3.00 on the day to ensure you have the Early Bird discount of £18 instead of paying £21. Don’t forget to let Laurence know your menu choices.

Coach is now full but you could meet us there!

Target Park Runs in 2017

Every month we are selecting a  local Parkrun, with the aim of getting Abbeys to try different Park Runs.

Next Target Parkrun to be decided.

Abbey Target Parkrun at Bradford Lister Park on Saturday 27th May. Really impressed with Lister Park, beautiful weather and lovely park with Lake and some hills. We opted for a coffee from take away van in park after race.

Photos from the Abbey Target Parkrun at Cross Flats Park run on Saturday 22nd April. Enjoyed the breakfast at Sandwiches Galore!

Photos from the Abbey target Parkrun  at Roundhay Park, followed by breakfast at the Lakeside Cafe on Saturday 18th March.

Our first Target Park Run was Bramley Park Run, followed by a social breakfast at the Old Unicorn Inn.
