Sue and I (Maureen) thought we would try something different and last year booked to take part in SCTC at Kielder, do a bit of running and enjoy a weekend away. We were blessed with the best weather possible for this fantastic weekend, snow and ice on the ground and beautiful sunshine showed Kielder at its best.
With probably enough kit for a fortnight’s stay (what if my kit gets wet, which shoes do I need – you know how it is) we arrived at the Calvert Trust which was to be our base for the weekend. With runs planned every day, two sessions on Saturday, talks from the experts, massage/physio and even a Question of Sport quiz thrown in, there was plenty to keep us busy.
The accommodation was good, a good selection of food and some quality Nike kit thrown in for good measure (striped jackets above). It was good mixing with other runners, of all abilities, as well as talking and running with Mr Cram himself, Laura Weightman (1500m silver medallist at the Glasgow Commonwealth games) and others.
To get physio advice from the man who tends to the top athletes (free!) was a bonus.
If you are thinking of an activity weekend sometime we would thoroughly recommend this one.
