We thought that it would be fun, sociable and a good way to introduce people to racing if we target specific Parkruns on a monthly basis. It would be good to see a few Abbey vests or technical shirts on display at these runs although, of course, this is not compulsory.
We will target a Parkrun on the 2nd Saturday of the month and rotate around 3 main ones in Leeds and then pick a one slightly further afield every 4th month? Whether you are a 15 minute or 35 minute 5k racer it would be great to see you at these informal and fun races.
5 kilometre Parkruns take place at 9:00 am every Saturday and often even on Christmas and New Year’s Day. The club is targeting the following races:
|10 May 2014||Hyde Park|
|14 June 2014||Temple Newsam|
|12 July 2014||Roundhay|
|9 August 2014||Cross Flatts|
|20 September*||Hyde Park|
|11 October||Temple Newsam|
|8 November 2014||Roundhay|
|13 December 2014||Bradford|
|10 January 2015||Hyde Park|
|14 February||Temple Newsam|
|14 March 2015||Roundhay|
|12 April 2015||Harrogate|
For those unfamiliar with Parkruns:
“Parkrun organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.
These events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings and we encourage people of every ability to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience; we welcome you all….”
You will need to register and print off a copy of your personal bar code. You results will then be maintained online for you whichever runs you do (even internationally!). Please note that Parkrun is run by volunteers and all adult participants are requested to help out 3 times per year in return for these free races – it is only about an hour of your time.
