Reminder: Summer solstice at Dentdale music & beer festival
This year the Summer Solstice celebrations will be part of our club 30th Anniversary events and will be held much more locally in picturesque Dales village of Dent. The vent will take place on Saturday 28th June and will involve scampering around the hills surrounding Dent. It will be for walkers and runners and will be based on the principle of reaching/finding checkpoints for points, and points mean prizes! Prizes for walkers and runners, minimum of 2 in each team.
The weekend has the added advantage of being the Dentdale Music and Beer festival so we will spend the day out in the sunshine on the hills to return to the campsite to refresh ourselves before heading into the melee for fine food, music and lots of beer (or just a tipple if that’s all you want). http://www.dentmusicandbeer.com/
The outline plan:
Camp at High Laning Campsite http://www.highlaning.com (I have reserved some pitches already), you can arrive on Friday night if you want.
On Saturday 28th 0930 meet at the campsite for a briefing and issue of maps etc.
10 am set off for the challenge, bring your own lunch. Visit as many of the checkpoints as you can. Each one has a different value, the further away or the greater the climb the higher the value.
The event closes at 5 pm, all folk should be back by then, late comers will start to lose points.
None of the pubs are taking bookings for evening meals over that weekend so it is first come first served. We should all aim to pile into the pub (probably the George and Dragon www.thegeorgeanddragondent.co.uk which doesn’t start serving food ’til 6pm) just before 6 for refreshments, food and prize giving. I am sure there will also be plenty of music.
Please let Mike know (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you want to come and if you want to camp on Friday or Saturday night. I have made some provisional bookings already and there is still plenty of space but the earlier I know the more spaces I can book.
