Turner Landscape English Championship Fell Race

Starting from the Turner Hall campsite ( one of the best I’ve ever camped at, great scenery and nice and peaceful ) at Seathwaite in the Duddon Valley,Cumbria.

Race distance, almost 11 mile with 2997 ft of climbing.

A very long, steady climb up to Grey Friar summit, with just a brief respite running along the dam wall at Seathwaite reservoir. After that we visited the summits of Swirl Howe,Coniston Old Man and Dow Crag. The weather was good and we were rewarded with some marvelous views. A technical sort of fell race, rocky descents, contouring, and a final muddy downhill into the finish field.

Good to see fell running legend Joss Naylor presiding over the prize giving ceremony.

Tough race as it was, we did manage a  ‘recovery run’ on Sunday lunchtime  up to the summit of Loughrigg fell near Ambleside ,just a steady 5 mile jaunt.

Dave Beston ( along with John Fortescue & Richard Foster )
