Apperley Bridge Canter Thursday 23 May 2013
This was my second year running this local trail race organised by Horsforth Harriers which starts near Woodhouse Grove School, Apperley Lane. It is about 10k in distance and a mixture of tracks, path and canal. It had been raining and hail stoning for most of the day so I was hoping it would keep off for the race which it did. It was slightly chilly evening but dry. The race starts round the corner from the school at the same point as the Horsforth 1ok and follows the route for a short distance. It was muddy on parts of the route so I didn’t make the mistake of wearing road trainers like last year and wore light trail shoes.
I finished nearly a minute faster time than last year (although I had done the inaugural Post Hill Challenge organised by Pudsey Pacers the evening before!) so didn’t have the heavy tired legs. The race was well supported by a lot of the local clubs and is well worth doing and a good introduction to trail running . You can still have a quick run and no major hills apart from a short climb on the road near the beginning. I won my age group last year but only third this time, everyone seems to be getting quicker!
Other Abbeys running were Martin Jones and Lucy Cohen. Apologies if anyone else ran but I haven’t seen any other names in the results:
1st Male Phillip Tedd, Woodhouse Grove School 33.06
1st Female Aiveen Fox, Horsforth Harriers 38.22
109 Martin Jones 44.10
121 Sharon Williams 44.39
266 Lucy Cohen 53.16
398 finished. Full results and photos can be found on the Horsforth Harriers site
